I love a good weekend recap post (and I had a great weekend, I swear!), but I'm going to test out a different approach with my Monday morning blog post today. Sure, I could tell you all about my weekend (Mostly, it rained. I also puppy-sat Roscoe again), or I could share some things that might actually be useful to you, and help you have a great week! So, here goes...
Something for (Monday) Motivation:
I stumbled across this TED talk last week and the question it posed really resonated with me: What makes us feel good about our work?
Workplace fulfillment and employee engagement are professional aspects that have always really interested me, and Dan Ariely makes some smart points in his talk. If you're looking for some career inspiration to kick off your week, you should definitely give it a watch. Something you might have missed:
I'm sure by now, you've seen the crazy shark attack footage from the J-Bay Open in South Africa on Sunday, but did you also see that tech giant Google hit a record high on Friday with the stock value jumping $65 billion in one day? Experts cite growth in YouTube (which Google owns) viewership as the likeliest cause, which puts a bit of a damper on Facebook's recent strong push into video.
Something to get you moving:
There's no denying that Omi's "Cheerleader" is catchy as hell, maybe even the song of the summer, but.... haveee you heard the remix? I've probably listened to it 10 times in a row this morning-- so fun!
Something I'm lusting over:
Pointy toe flats! I think I'm a little late to the game here, but I'm currently obsessed... I've been trying to dress "more professionally" for work lately (not saying much in San Diego AND working for an agency, where jeans and flip flops are pretty much the norm), and I feel like pointy-toe flats are the perfect compromise. They're closed-toe, not rounded ballet flats (which I feel are a little juvenile right now), and basically fake heels: all the professionalism, none of the discomfort. Check out these nautical beauties:
I'm also getting super excited for my birthday next weekend! Probably a good excuse to treat myself to those striped flats, huh?
